Capturing the sonic aesthetic of a particular musical group in imagery is a unique challenge, but I’ve always found it a worthwhile and fun one. These two projects demonstrate the diversity of styles and iconography that I have employed to create logos and album art for a range of bands and artists.
Above: Logo for Cornell University Klezmer Ensemble (CUKE)
Like the musical group it represents, this logo all about fun. CUKE is a motley crew of students, community members, faculty and regional musicians who gather on the Cornell University campus to celebrate an eclectic musical tradition.

When conceptualizing this logo, I decided to foreground the instruments, since they are the uniting force behind the group. I also wanted to make sure I captured the energy and chutzpah of this party genre. Put one and one together, and you get dancing instruments!
Right: Album Art for Humbug’s 2019
Single “Alice the Aviator”

Humbug is a power pop band with a grungy edge, hailing from sunny LA. Their 2019 debut single “Alice the Aviator” is a fast, guitar-driven track with a homegrown tale to tell: small town girl Alice dreams of flying, and her neighbors band together to help her make that dream a reality.

My task was to represent the narrative’s retro charm, the music’s garage band flair, and the message of feminist empowerment. For inspiration, I drew on vintage airline posters and Amelia Earhart’s sartorial sense, subverting those references to the past with an unfamiliar and modern color palette.
